Lisgar Area of Mississauga, is a developing and primarily middle to upper class community located in the northwestern part of Mississauga which borders on Halton Region. In 2010, as a result of annexation, the west boundary will be extended past Ninth Line to the toll road, Highway 407 ETR. This will allow further development to occur in this area. Plans include a community centre, a recreation centre and numerous parks and nature trails.
Lisgar was originally called "Switzer's Corners" because the Switzer family was one of the first family to settle in this area. In 1871, the name was changeg to "Lisgar" in honour of Sir John Young Lisgar, Governer General of Canda.
The first major real estate development in this community was a unique modular concept built around Tenth Line and Trelawny Circle, called Trelawny Woods.Six detached homes werebuilt on inclined angled lots which fronted on a cul-de-sac off a typical road. The rest of the development, has been more conventional with communities like Crimson Woods, Stonewood, BridleGate etc.
Lisgar is a wonderful neighbourhood to raise a family due to schools being within walking distance , the numerous parks and recreational programs available, local shopping within the neighbourhood boundaries and numerous sports programs throughout.
